As a dramatherapist, I am trained to work with children from a very young age. Using story, play and art materials it is possible to work with challenging behaviour and complex problems in a safe, non-confrontational way.
It is also a great way to develop communication skills, grow in confidence and find new ways to build relationships outside the therapy room.
The teenage years are a time of enormous change, rapid development and hormonal fluctuation. At the best of times this can be a challenging period, but sometimes life conspires to make things worse.
It is not uncommon for young people to self-harm, develop eating disorders and manifest anxiety in sleep disorders and obsessive compulsive behaviour. This is very painful to watch as a parent or carer.
Having somebody neutral to talk to, in a confidential and safe environment, can unlock stuck behaviour patterns and open up the possibility of new ways of being and feeling.
